Founded in 1947, Westside Guild was established as the Juniors of Santa Monica, an auxiliary to Children’s Hospital comprised of 25 women. They helped with a Kiddie Karnival at Roosevelt School. In 1953, the Kiddie Karnival became the Country Fair at the Brentwood Country Mart and included a tennis exhibition. In 1958, the fair became the Racquet Rally, with 48 couples participating in a tennis tournament at Lincoln Park and Santa Monica College tennis courts. The group changed its name in 1959 to the Westside Guild of Children’s Hospital.
Eventually the Racquet Rally moved to the private courts at Westside homes with a party following at the Beach Club. The Holiday Showcase Gala was initiated in 1989 and proved to be very successful. The Showcase Gala has evolved into our current benefit at which approximately 350-400 Westside Guild guests gather for demonstrations and speakers, shopping and a lovely luncheon to benefit the Hospital. Currently we have 48 active members.
